Coconut Kitchen Essentials

Written By Go Vita

If you’re a dairy-free household then coconut products offer a creamy, nutty alternative for both sweet and savoury dishes!

Organic Road Coconut Cream and Milk: If the evening curry calls for coconut milk and you have some left over then pour into ice cube trays and freeze – these are great for smoothies! If the recipe calls for coconut cream store the can in the fridge overnight and skim off the thicker part and use for cooking – great in chocolate mousse!

Organic Road Coconut Flour: This gluten-free, fiber-rich flour is highly absorbent so if you are substituting for 1 cup of traditional flour you probably only need 1/3 cup coconut flour. You might also want to add an extra egg to make sure the resulting baked item isn’t too dry.

Organic Road Coconut Sugar: This comes from the sap of the coconut palm flower buds – so doesn’t really taste anything like coconut! If the recipe calls for white or brown sugar – simply add coconut sugar 1:1. Note. The recipes may be a little drier using coconut sugar.

Organic Road Desiccated Coconut, Raw Coconut Chips or Flakes and Shredded Coconut: This trio is always great to have on hand! Toast in a hot dry pan for about 5 minutes stirring till lightly browned – they are perfect on top of a smoothie bowl, curry, iced cakes, and salads.

Organic Road Coconut Oil: The oil comes from the flesh of the coconut. Substitute coconut oil 1:1 in recipes that call for butter or oil.
